WHY USE SPEECH PATHOLOGY SOFTWARE?

Computer-assisted speech therapy has been clinically proven as effective in an increasing number of studies.
 
The National Stroke Foundation Stroke Guidelines for Speech Pathology endorse the use of computer-based therapy programmes as an effective therapy strategy for patients with aphasia.

It is increasingly difficult to access enough Speech Pathology treatment.  Research into Intensity of Aphasia Therapy and Impact on Recovery has shown that in order to achieve optimal therapy outcomes, 8.8 hours per week, for an average of 11.2 weeks is required.  These computer programs can help to increase the hours of speech and language traetment through home practice or working with therapy assistants.

And of course .... people love the acheivement of working on their own speech on the computer and their carers don't need to spend as much time helping with home practice.
 

WHAT DO WE OFFER ?

We were established in 1999 by Australian Speech Pathologist Carol Bishop who saw a need to supply easy-to-use, clinically effective software to equip Australian Speech Pathologists who manage increasingly large caseloads and often service large or remote areas.  Carol and a team of multimedia developers and photographers produced Speech Sounds on Cue which received an enthusiastic response from users and professionals and is used worldwide for the treatment of Dyspraxia/Apraxia.

We have now worked hard to gather a range of world standard international software for the treatment of aphasia, dyspraxia, dysarthria, reading and cognition for adults and speech, language and learning difficulties in children.

 

SOFTWARE DEVELOPERS WE REPRESENT

Bungalow Software is based in based in Blacksburg, Virginia, USA.  They have developed specially designed programs to provide unlimited, independent speech, language and cognitive stimulation using proven therapeutic techniques. Designed by speech therapists and used around the world since 1995.
We have been involved with Bungalow in adapting the vocabulary for the Australian versions of their programs. The most popular Bungalow programs to start with are Aphasia Tutor 1 Words Outloud and Aphasia Tutor 2 Sentences Outloud.  Sights 'n Sounds Delux or Pro (for professionals) lets you easily record your voice and compare it to a model. Propeller Multimedia is based in Peebles in Great Britain.  Their original program, React has been a leading product for speech and language rehabilitation since 1998 and now the program has been completely re-written and updated to produce React2.  React2 combines the development skills of a team of speech and language therapists from NHS Borders, Scotland, with input from specialists in the UK and around the world.  It is designed to be used with adults with aphasia but also adults and children with learning difficulties and children with delayed or disordered language. We have worked with Propeller to change the vocabulary for the Australian version and are now working on including Australian voice recordings.   The Life Skills Module of React2 is about to be released.  You can try React2 for 30 days for free - just ask for our Sampler CD or download it from this site.

Protea Textware is an Australian company which has developed a range of software for English language learning, but Issues in English and Issues in English 2 are also popular for high level aphasia rehabilitation.  You can view demos of the Protea programs from the links on our website.

Learning Fundamentals is based California, USA and produces software designed by Marna Scarry-Larkin, MA, CCC / SLP is a speech-language pathologist who specialises in Executive Functions, Communication Disorders and Literacy. Their most popular program in Australia is Attention and Memory Volume II, used by Speech Pathologists and Occupational Therapists working in Brain injured clients.  They also have games for children to make speech sessions more stimulating - these are best played with an Australin adult to supply the voice models.  These programs can be played on Macintosh as well as Windows computers.

All our software is designed and tested by Speech Pathologists for use as a time saver in the clinic, or to provide extra independent practice at home between sessions or after discharge.
